Hey John, it’s Arial, and in case you forgot, I’m one of the hosts of “What Matters,” the Black Lives Matter podcast!
I hope you’ve been following along with us as we’ve dropped new episodes. So far, we’ve had discussions on Black jobs and economics and community safety—our newest episode is on education.
We know realllll well that our education system isn’t functioning the way it should. It needs a complete overhaul—but what does that look like? How do we make sure that education is truly accessible to ALL and that Black students and families are supported?
How do we make sure that our history isn’t erased? How do we stop history from repeating itself, and ensure that every kid knows the legacy of Black leaders, movements, and power?
Listen to the episode now!
We can look back at our ancestors and history to see our path forward.
In the episode, we go back to our roots and discuss The Oakland Community School as an important model of how our educational system could function.
Its community-based approach can help bridge gaps between our current schools and neighborhoods. Its focus on culturally relevant curriculum addresses the current call for representation and engagement for today's students of color.
This conversation is even more striking because we’re joined by Dr. Xavier Buck, the Executive Director of the Black Panther Party Museum, and the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation, who has a wealth of knowledge about The Oakland Community School and the Black Panther Party as a whole.
Join us as we dive into education and our path forward.
Thanks for listening,
Arial, Host
What Matters
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
