Harvest 2024

People always say that they only hear from politicians at election time. This has never been the case for me. In fact, meeting people is one of the best bits of my work and I have been trying to find new ways of meeting as many of you as possible.  

 

I have started holding drop-in sessions in pubs and cafes, where anyone can come for a chat without booking in advance. So far, I’ve done these in the wards which have newly joined my constituency, but I’ll work my way round the whole constituency. Please keep an eye out for a letter inviting you!

 

My drop-in surgeries are in addition to my regular surgeries and the help I give people when they contact me – so if you do have a problem which I can help you with please get in touch.

I am still receiving emails every day from pensioners worried about losing Winter Fuel Payments. I voted against this, along with many other MPs - but not enough to overturn the Government’s majority. **Supporting people with sight loss**

World Sight Day is a reminder of how important it is to support those who live with sight loss.

**Raising residents' concerns about Highsted Park **

Residents have told me about the detrimental impact the Highsted Park developments will have on their lives. So I’ve raised these concerns with Swale Borough Council. You can read more [here]([link removed]).

We are at a turning point in our fight against dementia and I’ll be continuing to stand up for those affected and push for the valuable work against this disease to continue. Read more [here]([link removed]).


**Questioning Ministers about the use of catapults to kill**

I won't stop pressing Ministers until they tell me how the justice system can deter (and stop) catapults being used to kill animals.

Not enough women are getting screened. As Minister for Cancer I expanded screening access and I urge anyone who receives an invitation to go.

Cracking down on hare coursing

Hare coursing is increasing despite being illegal for over two decades. 

 

People have been reporting these instances of cruelty and Kent Police have assured me they are on the case. Read more [here]([link removed]).
