Veterinary care for chimpanzees as they age is complicated.

We are immensely grateful for everyone who donated to our 2024 BUILD IT! Campaign last week, benefitting Save the Chimps, the largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary in the world.

Along with expansion and improvement of facilities at Save the Chimps, your contribution will also support the sanctuary’s vital veterinary services. A key element of Save the Chimps’ strategic plan is construction of a state-of-the-art medical clinic to better meet the needs of residents, especially as they age. Like humans, elderly chimpanzees are especially at risk for hypertension, heart disease, dental complications, diabetes, arthritis, and other health conditions, but they can be treated.

Please help ensure the long-term health of these chimps with a gift for Build It!

AAVS is also going to help Save the Chimps with their plans to create a Rescue Support Center for quarantining of new arrivals and managing them during the necessary adjustment period. That process includes medical monitoring, personality profiling, health examinations and treatments, dietary adjustments, and behavioral support services that are central to a chimpanzee’s successful transition to a life of true refuge.

But they need our help to make it happen. Fortunately, during our special matching gift challenge, your contribution will be doubled!

Thank you!
