City University of New York faculty and students are organizing to decarbonize CUNY’s many campuses, and 350Brooklyn is joining the effort at Brooklyn College. Our goal is to organize community support for turning Brooklyn College into a renewable energy hub that can reduce emissions, relieve the neighborhood’s overstretched power grid, and serve as a pilot for broader decarbonization efforts. It was a wonderful party!
Huge thank you’s to everyone who helped make the Solarpunk Party and Auction a success
Our Solarpunk fundraiser was so much fun. As one party-goer said, “It was a great location, delicious homemade food and cookies, a beautiful room full of auction items and our hosts were fun and so friendly!” A huge thank you to Brooklyn Solarworks for providing the space and the drinks, to the many local businesses and artists who donated to our auction, and to the phenomenal crew of volunteers who made this happen. And to everyone who came and added to the fun and good cheer. We raised roughly $7,500, which will go to all the many things that help 350Brooklyn exert real power in the climate space. Thank you, thank you!
Power Hour: BE the October Surprise!

Our amazing volunteers make lots of calls about climate change, and we know that politicians listen most when they feel like their careers are on the line. Join us for upcoming phone banks on Tuesday, October 22 at 12:00 pm (with Third Act), every Wednesday evening in October (with NYC Climate Families), or any of the many scheduled EVP phone banks between now and the election. Together WE will be the October surprise!

Tell the NY Power Authority to build public renewable energy now!
Send a letter to Hochul now, and save the date:

Tell the NY Power Authority to do its job and build public renewable energy! The NYPA draft strategic plan for the next two years is out now, and it comes nowhere near meeting the state’s climate goals. NYPA’s plan also falls far short of its obligations under the hard-won 2023 Build Public Renewables Act. It’s urgent that NYPA hears our message loud and clear: we need more publicly owned renewable energy! Send Governor Hochul a message right now and save the date for an in-person hearing on November 20. We’ll have more info on this important hearing in our next newsletter.
350Brooklyn General Meeting
The climate struggle and the fight for the Tonawanda Seneca way of life
Check out Hochul's climate report card
For years, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation has been fighting the construction of a mega-industrial project on the Nation’s present-day reservation boundary in Western NY. This project would destroy over a thousand acres of biodiverse ancestral lands where citizens hunt, fish, and gather traditional medicines. We’ll hear from Tonawanda Seneca leaders and learn more about how this struggle fits into the statewide movement for environmental justice and a livable climate.
Voting organization of the week:
Seed The Vote
Seed The Vote recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to door knock and phone bank with local partners in battleground states where Presidential races are likely to be the closest, and where we need to defend Democratic Senate or House seats or have the opportunity to pick up new ones. We know that face-to-face conversations are the most effective way to persuade voters in swing states where the election may be determined by a very small number of voters. Sign up here to let us know how you want to be involved! Seed the Vote is a project of Everyday People PAC which supports the electoral work of grassroots organizations in swing states who are working to build the long term power of working class communities and communities of color.
