VIDEO OF THE DAY: GOP Sen. Josh Hawley caught in humiliating scandal
Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, a real bro's bro who has perhaps the worst record on women's reproductive rights in all of Washington (and THAT is saying something), has caused quite a stir in his seemingly comfortable bid to win re-election. After failing to hold a campaign event for 55 days, Hawley finally swooped back home on a private jet alongside none other than Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, dropping policy prescriptions straight out of the 1880s. Hawley, whose definitely-not-weird obsession with all things testosterone led him to write an entire book lamenting — despite all evidence to the contrary — the decline of masculinity in America, sat shoulder-to-shoulder with Butker while his surrogate mansplained just "how beautiful it is for women to maybe just step aside" from public and professional life and, you know, let men make all of life's important decisions for them. Truly stunning stuff.

Back-to-school season reminds us it’s time to get serious about reading
Reading is Fundamental: It’s 2024, and only 47% of American kindergarten students are reading at grade level. If we’re ever going to fix this crisis, we need kids to start reading early and reading often! That’s why Texas teacher and influencer Mrs. Taylor Mora is calling on EVERYONE to get involved, raise awareness, and get kids reading! Will you add your name to pledge your support for children’s literacy in America?
Insidious, right-wing viral attack on Tim Walz features fake former student making outlandish false claim
Elon Musk's dumpster fire of a social media platform disseminated a totally bogus, definitely fake story about Kamala Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, that has been viewed more than five million times. In the post, an imposter posing as a former student of Walz's from Minnesota makes outlandish sexual misconduct claims that have no basis in reality. The identity theft victim was eventually notified of the fake story and confirmed with The Washington Post that the entire thing is untrue, but that hasn't stopped right-wing nüTwitter dolts from spreading it to millions of gullible followers. We're sure Elon is taking this situation seriously and will remedy the mess in short order. 😐

Central Park Five members sue Trump for defamation after debate comments
Five men collectively dubbed the Central Park Five sued the MAGA cult leader for defamation Monday after he falsely said during the presidential debate that they had pleaded guilty to a brutal rape 35 years ago when they were teenagers, despite the fact that they had their convictions overturned. Lawyers for the five allege in the lawsuit that the disgraced ex-president acted with “reckless disregard” for the truth and with intent to cause “severe emotional distress” by claiming during the September 10 debate that they had “killed a person” in the notorious incident and admitted their guilt. The five men, who Trump targeted in 1989 with a full-page ad in The New York Times calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty, have always denied the crime and — after years of false imprisonment — were eventually exonerated.

Trump's latest grift is a $100 MAGADonald t-shirt cashing in on his fast-food drive-thru stunt
The 78-year-old professional swindler unveiled his latest scheme, a ridiculously overpriced t-shirt "commemorating" his stupid McDonald's stunt over the weekend. For just $100, "True Trump patriots" can purchase a white t-shirt with a picture of the convicted felon donning an apron and waving from a McDonald’s drive-thru window. McGrifters gonna grift, grift, grift, grift, grift.

Trump distances himself from Mark Robinson: "I'm not familiar"
The MAGA cult leader, himself an adjudicated rapist with decades of sexual assault claims and countless stories of lewd sexual behavior dogging him to this day, curiously distanced himself from his handpicked gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina, the Hitler-loving, MAGA-flag-waving lieutenant governor, Mark Robinson, who has hemmorhaged support in a once-razor-thin race after appalling posts he made on a hardcore pornography website surfaced last month. Trump, who just a month ago called Robinson "Martin Luther King on steroids" now claims he is "not familiar" with the state of the race. How convenient!
Top DeSantis attorneys penned letters threatening to prosecute local TV stations over abortion ad, affidavit says
Top attorneys for disgruntled full-time Gov. Ron DeSantis penned the cease-and-desist letters sent by Florida’s health department threatening to criminally prosecute local TV stations over their airing of an abortion rights ad, the department’s former general counsel said in court documents. In an affidavit filed on Monday, John Wilson, the former general counsel for Florida’s Department of Health, said that Sam Elliot, a top attorney for the DeSantis administration, provided him with pre-written letters to the TV stations on October 3. Wilson was directed by Ryan Newman and Jed Doty, both general counsel for the DeSantis administration, to send the letters under his own name, he stated in the affidavit. “I did not draft the letters or participate in any discussions about the letters prior to October 3,” Wilson wrote. Wilson resigned from his post the following week, a decision he said he made “in lieu of complying with directives from Newman and Doty to send out further correspondence to the media outlets,” after the threats to local outlets ignited outrage. “A man is nothing without his conscience,” Wilson wrote in his resignation letter.
