Dear John, As we draw closer to Election Day, many of us have been experiencing a range of emotions from happiness and joy to fear and frustration. Perhaps feeling like you’re not doing enough, which is certainly understandable with so much on the line this election. However, I am choosing to lean into and lead with hope and I ask you to join me. As activist Mariame Kaba so eloquently stated, "Hope is a discipline. It's work to be hopeful. It's not a fuzzy feeling. You have to actually put in energy, time, and you have to be clear-eyed, and you have to hold fast to having a vision.” For me, hope is an everyday practice of doing the work we do at the Ms. Foundation to build women’s collective power. It’s trusting, listening to, and investing in the leaders who are making a difference in communities across the country and fighting for an equitable and inclusive society. I wholeheartedly believe in this work and know that it’s our path forward to a true democracy. You need only look to the women’s suffrage, civil rights, and gay rights movements to know what is possible and what we can achieve when we come together. These movements were defined by bold visioning and people who wouldn’t take no as answer. People who came from all walks of life and understood that our freedom is inextricably linked to one another. The call is clear. We must continue building our collective power to ensure that the generations after us have more, not fewer rights than we have. Make your commitment to a feminism that encompasses the social, economic, and political equality of all. Consider supporting the Ms. Foundation today to invest in a future not limited by gender, race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or age. For this election and beyond, advancing democracy requires all of us to be steadfast in our hope and commitment to one another, and I'm excited to see what we accomplish. In solidarity, |
