Update on Gun Law Opponents Repeal Campaign:
The opposition's campaign appear to have submitted the necessary number of signatures to the MA Secretary of State. The next step is the Secretary of State review process where those signatures will be vetted and tallied by county because no more than 25% of the total can come from a single county. A spokesperson for Secretary of State William Galvin told the media that the review process is unlikely to begin until after the Nov. 5 election.
Legal experts agree Massachusetts’ new gun laws will likely hold up.
"What this law has done is a little bit more modest than the way it's been framed by opponents," said Cody Jacobs, a lecturer at the B.U. School of Law who studies constitutional law and state gun policy. "I don't think that the changes that this law made are likely to be struck down by a court under the Second Amendment." |
