Rob was in Los Angeles today with state and local leaders to talk with community members about two key issues: affordable and accessible healthcare for all and afterschool programs for our kids.
This morning, the AG joined Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Nick Melvoin, Assemblymember Tina McKinnor, and some incredible student performers and speakers at an event hosted by ExpandLA and California Afterschool Advocacy Alliance to celebrate California’s afterschool programs during the 25th annual #LightsOnAfterschool week.
Rob spoke personally about how he and his wife Mia relied on afterschool programs as working parents raising three children. These programs provide life-changing resources and support for our children’s educational journeys, providing a safe and reliable place where they can get help with homework, get creative with art projects, play sports, hang out with friends, and talk to teachers. The evidence is clear: afterschool programs work, which is why Rob has been so proud to support them throughout his career.
In the afternoon, Rob joined U.S. Representatives Judy Chu and Jimmy Gomez, and healthcare advocates for Protect Our Care California’s “Lower Cost, Better Care” bus tour stop in LA.
Together, they uplifted the Biden-Harris administration’s and congressional Democrats’ work to lower healthcare costs by passing the Inflation Reduction Act and strengthening the Affordable Care Act — something most Republicans voted against. Today, more Americans have health insurance than ever before, and they’re saving more than ever in health costs thanks to these policies, including the $35 cap on insulin for Medicare patients.
Trump and MAGA Republicans pose a serious threat to our healthcare rights with their continued efforts to undermine the ACA, Medi-Cal, reproductive care, and LGBTQ+ health rights. It’s critical we elect hardworking Democrats this election to safeguard access to affordable and equitable healthcare.
