In person absentee voting starts tomorrow and WILL is working to provide valuable information ahead of the election. Many Wisconsin voters across the state will have school referenda to consider.
Often, these referenda ask voters’ permission to issue debt for something specific or to exceed the annual revenue limits set by state law, in either case by increasing voters’ property taxes.
WILL’s new property tax calculator was developed with data from local school districts via information available online and open records requests. Gathering that data also showcased some of the shortfalls in accountability and transparency that exist at the local level related to ballot referenda.
