New polling indicates Americans are sick of our current healthcare system.
A recent The Hill/Harris-X poll released last month shows overall voter support for Medicare for All at 69 percent. Among Democrats that number jumps to 88 percent, followed by Independents at 68 percent and Republicans at 46 percent.
These results are similar to exit polls from early Presidential primary states, and they make clear the fact that opponents, not supporters, of single-payer healthcare are the radical ones.
The Democratic Party is likely to nominate Joe Biden for the Presidential ticket. Biden’s a known benefactor of pharmaceutical and healthcare industry donations and an ardent opponent of Medicare for All. It is clear we can’t count on whoever sits in the Oval Office to work to enact this popular policy.
Who can we count on to finally enact a universal single-payer healthcare system? We can count on all the Congressional candidates on the Brand New Congress slate to stand together, create a coalition of lawmakers, and mobilize public support to pressure the president -- regardless of the party to which he belongs -- to stop allowing Big Industry and corporate greed to dictate our national priorities.
