John,

Our entire nation has been in mourning this past week. We're grieving the lives that were taken in Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton because of another wave of mass shootings.

What used to feel like safe, public spaces no longer do. And the hatred that fueled these senseless acts of violence must be addressed.

Americans deserve better than to fear for their children every time they leave the house. I know that our communities are frightened, and many of you are fed up just like I am.

Help me turn this anger and sadness into action, John. Our majority in the House passed a comprehensive background checks bill that is sitting on Mitch McConnell's desk. Now it's on Senator McConnell to do what's right and pass it. Add your name if you support action

The gun violence epidemic in America is a public health crisis and must be addressed. We need to act right now before any more innocent lives are lost -- and we can do that if Senator McConnell stops blocking a vote on background checks.

We also need to talk about banning the weapons of war that are the guns of choice for so many mass shooters -- the assault weapons that allow one person to senselessly take so many lives in a matter of seconds. These firearms have no place on our streets, in our schools, or in any other public space.

This shouldn't be a partisan issue; these protections are necessary. So, if you're with me, join me in calling on Mitch McConnell to pass the Bipartisan Background Checks Act.
