[link removed] [[link removed]] In just a moment, I’m going to ask you to chip in to my campaign to protect KS-03 . But before I do that, I want to share a bit with you about where I come from and why I’m in this fight.
I was raised by a single mom who spent 20 years serving in the Army. My mom taught me the value of hard work, and the importance of serving your community and your country — values I carried with me as I worked multiple jobs to get myself through college and law school.
I have dedicated my life to public service — after I graduated, I got to work helping Native American reservations build communities and economically thrive. This work inspired me to apply to be a White House Fellow, where I got to work under President Obama in the Department of Transportation.
I ran for Congress to give Kansans a voice who will represent their values in Washington, not the values of corporate special interest groups. And when I won, I flipped a long-held Republican seat and became one of the first Native women elected to the House of Representatives.
Every day since then, I’ve been working hard for Kansas. I think of the values my mom taught me and make sure I instill them in everything I do to represent the people of KS-03.
My background is pretty unique for a member of Congress. There are a handful of us who paid our own way through school. But it probably won’t surprise you to know that I'm the only openly LGBTQ Native American woman (and also the only former MMA fighter) serving in Congress — and I’m proud to bring a unique perspective to Washington.
Look, in the next few days, you’re going to hear some nasty attacks from my opponent on my character and my record in Congress. I want to set the record straight — I am running for re-election proudly on my record, and for as long as I have the privilege of serving, I’m going to keep working hard for the people of Kansas.
And after reading this, if you feel like supporting my campaign, I’d be incredibly grateful to have your help spreading our message far and wide.
