Hey John,
We’re SO excited to share that today, the White House announced a proposal to require that over-the-counter birth control methods be covered by insurance! That means that condoms, emergency contraception, and yes, Opill, would cost NOTHING under insurance plans!
Young people have always said that birth control MUST be affordable, and that’s why we didn’t stop fighting once Opill became available over the counter. We continued working to expand access, including through strong advocacy for insurance coverage. And the Biden Administration heard us.
So what's next? Now the proposed rule has to go through a public comment process before it’s finalized. We’re looking forward to working with the Administration to ensure young people on their parents’ insurance plans can access over-the-counter birth control confidentially.
The Free the Pill Youth Council is working for a world where all young people have access to birth control, and that it’s affordable and confidential. Today is an incredible step toward achieving that vision!
