We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! Groundswell Action Fund has honored Karundi Williams , our Executive Director, as one of their 2024 Vanguard Legacy Awardees . This recognition is particularly meaningful because it celebrates leaders who advance justice in our communities through bold and innovative action.
Karundi was recognized as The Empowerment Champion [[link removed]] , a leader who prioritizes uplifting and empowering others, especially those from marginalized communities, fostering a culture of inclusivity and equity.
When asked "What is your why?" Karundi responded:
"I honor the Black women before me. I am creating a world where Black and Brown girls are living and seen in their full power. I fight for us everyday. My why is rooted in the liberation and freedom of women of color, inspired deeply by my little Black girl who drives everything I do and shapes who I am. I want to ensure my legacy will support women of color in the future who are living a life my ancestors could only dream of."
This award aligns with re:power's work of expanding liberatory organizing [[link removed]] practices rooted in community, collective action, and the belief in abundance for all. With Karundi's leadership [[link removed]] , re:power has grown its annual budget from $3.1 million to $6.1 million and expanded its staff from 11 to 25 members. This reflects her commitment to building a strong and purposeful organization for future leaders of color.
