The race for House District 33 is between the Republican incumbent, Sarah Penn, and the Democratic candidate, Ivan Posey. This is the legislative seat designed around the Wind River Reservation – to provide our Indigenous neighbors a voice in state affairs.
The Wyoming media considers this race as very possible to flip: Race to Represent Reservation Could Be Best Shot for Wyoming Dems to Turn a Seat.
Many of us in Fremont County are working hard to make sure this happens. Ivan Posey is an Eastern Shoshone Tribal member, and his election will ensure there’s a Native voice at the state level. He’ll be a balanced legislator dedicated to listening to and representing all people.
His opponent, Sarah Penn, votes in lockstep with the Freedom Caucus – a group of far-right legislators who get their orders on how to vote from the DC based House Freedom Caucus. Penn’s voting record reflects a very anti-Wyoming agenda.
Can you help us win this seat? We have formed a political action committee – Common Sense for HD33–focused on this race and we’re educating voters about Penn’s disastrous record. We’ve sent out mailers, texts and have a social media campaign in play. There’s lots more planned to come. But we haven’t met our fundraising goal to accomplish all this work.
Teton County is lucky to have great Democratic representation in our legislature. Maybe you can help us tip the balance statewide by assuring this seat for a Democrat in Fremont County. We ask for your donation if possible.
Please visit our website for data on Penn’s anti-Wyoming record and more about Ivan at Common Sense for HD 33. You can make a donation on line there or you can send a check to Common Sense for HD33, P.O. Box 204, Lander, WY 82520.
For the Wyoming we all love, I thank you!
