October 21, 2024
Dear John:
Last week, the mastermind behind the horrific October 7 attacks was killed by Israeli Defense Forces. I am proud of the IDF for taking decisive action against a monster who has terrorized Israelis and Palestinians alike, despite the calls from the Biden-Harris administration not to strike Rafah. The death of Yahya Sinwar is an incredible moment for Israel, the Middle East, and the entire free world that condemns the vile acts of terrorists. While it does not end Israel's fight against Iran and its proxies, it is a major step towards freedom and security in the region. I pray for Israel's continued success in their battle for survival.

Meeting with Performance Foodservice
Earlier this month, I met with Performance Foodservice at their operations facility in Marshall. I am thankful to their staff for talking to me more about their company and the policies that impact it.
One of these policies is the lower Corporate Income Tax Rate that was made a provision of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). It lowered the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, allowing companies like Performance Foodservice to invest in equipment and research to improve their work product, and increase staffing and wages. This provision has been made permanent, however, my colleagues on the left have been threatening to raise the rate next year should they have the majority. My colleagues and I, particularly in the Ways and Means Committee, are determined to fight for provisions like this one that encourage additional jobs and higher wages and bolster local economies, particularly those in our more rural regions.

Touring Eat Just in Appleton
I recently visited Eat Just, one of the largest employers in Appleton, where their staff highlighted their innovative strides in the plant-based food industry. Eat Just makes a plant-based product that is derived from mung beans, offering an alternative to conventional eggs. I sampled a number of their products, including one that was scrambled like an egg and a plant-based mayo and ranch dressing. In addition to learning about this protein source that provides an alternative to those with egg allergies, we discussed how the company is serving the community.
Companies like Eat Just provide jobs, contribute to the economy, and demonstrate how rural Minnesota can be a great place for innovative businesses to thrive. I had a great time talking to the Eat Just staff and am so proud to represent businesses like theirs in the Seventh District. I enjoy fighting for companies like this in conversations about taxes and regulations back in Washington.
