Growing up in the 90s, Bill Clinton was the President, and the chance to join him on the campaign trail in Raleigh yesterday was singlehandedly the greatest moment of my life. More than maybe any other politician of my lifetime, President Clinton set the tone for how Democrats should talk about the economy.
In fact, I told him I’ve devoted my life to making sure our party talks about our economy the way he does—putting people first, with empathy for the real struggles working people are having and a laser focus on the way that a good economy translates into opportunity and hope for ourselves, our communities, and our children.
Bill Clinton has also never been afraid to tell the simple truth: that if you look back at the history of our country, Democrats are the party that creates good economic times.
I’m a Democrat because I believe our neighbors are worth fighting for. Because I believe that hope is more powerful than fear and despair. And because I believe that we have real challenges ahead of us, but that there is nothing the people of North Carolina can’t overcome when we work together and stand strong.
I hope to bring those beliefs to the Treasurer’s office, but I need your support. Our single biggest need in the closing weeks of this campaign is the resources to get our message out in front of voters—and as I mentioned over the weekend, we’ve fallen behind my opponent in terms of TV coverage.
We’ve built a real movement for opportunity and community in our state over the last twenty months, but it will all be for naught if we can’t drive our message home in these last two weeks. We need to be able to reach every single voter we possibly can, so can I count on you to support my campaign with a contribution of any amount today? Whatever you can contribute will bring us closer to what we need to win.
