Hello, Southwest District! 

I wanted to fill you in on something personal I am doing as your DS, and why. You have known me as your DS strictly as “Mary Rodgers-Weaver,” and some of you knew me before that as just “Mary Weaver.” My maiden name is Rodgers, my married name is Weaver.   

As many of you may know, I am divorced. I have now been divorced for 14 years. When my ex-husband and I got divorced, I received full legal and physical custody of my two daughters, who were in grade school at the time. Having full custody, I didn’t want a different last name than theirs, knowing it would be a whole lot easier with school and legal documents if our names were the same.  
 
However, now that they are older, one in college and the other just graduated from college, (yikes!), and both less dependent on their mother, I would like to reclaim my maiden name. I’m not a Weaver anymore. I am a Rodgers through and through and proud of it, and my girls are Weavers, and I can’t be more proud of them. They support me in this decision 100% and understand why I want to make the change. 

So, officially and legally, my name is now Mary Rodgers. Of course, I will still answer to either Mary Weaver or Mary Rodgers-Weaver. You will not offend me in any way. I realize it will take some time to get used to the name change. To be honest, it’s been weird to introduce myself as Mary Rodgers the last couple weeks! 

I do have a new email address to use. It is [email protected]. However, do not worry if you send something to my old email address. I will still receive it. If you happen to send something to [email protected], it will be forwarded to my new email address.
