The integrity of our elections is under attack once again. As reports surface that Sofia Patel, head of operations for the U.K.'s Labor Party, is recruiting members to campaign for Kamala Harris in key swing states like North Carolina, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, we are reminded of a critical truth:
Foreign influence has no place in American politics.
As a former member of the Federal Election Commission, I can tell you that the law is clear. Federal law, specifically 52 U.S.C. § 30121, strictly prohibits any foreign national from making "a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value" in connection with any U.S. election.
And yet, it seems the Harris campaign is willing to push the limits of legality, much like Bernie Sanders' campaign did in 2016.
