As Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, as co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, and as a human being who believes in simple decency, I was sickened to see MAGA Republicans insert anti-LGBTQ+ language into our annual defense bill in order to try and score political points at the expense of others.
They want to restrict trans service members from receiving the health care they need, they want to ban pride flags from military bases, and more. It’s exactly the kind of thing Donald Trump tried to do as president, and it’s what we can expect if he wins again this November.
It’s an overt attack on the freedoms and equality LGBTQ+ people have worked so hard to achieve in recent decades. Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans want gay and trans people to disappear from public life, and they’re attempting to use the law as a weapon to make that happen.
But we’re not going to stand by and watch without a fight. Now that the Senate is getting ready to take up the package, I signed a letter with more than 160 House Democrats demanding that they remove the anti-LGBTQ+ language from the bill. And today I’m asking you to add your name as well.
