John — I’ve been crisscrossing the country over the last couple of weeks to rally voters, raise funds, and organize support for Vice President Kamala Harris and JanePAC’s incredible slate of down-ballot climate champions. I want to tell you about one of my stops in Washington state, but first, I need to ask for your support.

The road has taken me to some beautiful places, and last week, it brought me to Washington state. Now, if you’ve never been, let me tell you: It’s home to some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in the world — but it’s under threat by a Big Oil-backed initiative on the ballot this year, Initiative 2117.

I knew I had to join the fight to stop it. When I walked into the Green Lake Community Center to meet a packed room of volunteers, I could feel the energy bouncing off the walls. Everyone in that room was focused on one goal: defeating I-2117.

If successful, this anti-climate initiative, funded by a rich hedge-fund manager, would repeal Washington’s Climate Commitment Act that will reduce harmful air pollution, create jobs, and support Tribal communities in the state. This vital law ensures polluters are held accountable and funds clean energy projects and pollution reduction efforts. If I-2117 passes, it would strip away that funding, leaving communities vulnerable to increased emissions, dirtier air, and dangerous levels of pollution.

I’ve seen this story before. In my home state of California, Big Oil was planning to put a referendum on the ballot that would overturn a law that protected communities from toxic oil drilling near schools and homes. Now, they’re trying to pull the same stunt in Washington. But we fought back, we organized, and we won — Big Oil DROPPED the CA referendum right before the deadline!

John, we’ve beaten them before, and we can beat them again. In Washington state. In California. In Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. Everywhere we fight, we can win.

But we only have 16 days left until Election Day, and we need to give it everything we’ve got.
