Monday, October 14, 2024: I love parades! On Saturday I was in Folkston in Charlton County where I participated in the Okefenokee Festival that kicked off with a parade in the morning followed by lots of fun, food and festivities throughout what turned out to be one of the prettiest days of the year. Complete with food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a great classic car show and live music, this great event showcased the charm and culture of this great community. Later that night, I was in Savannah in Chatham County where I joined the graduating classes of 1974 and 1975 from Groves and Tompkins High Schools for a reunion event. This was my 49th reunion as I graduated from Groves High School in 1975. Boy, those people sure have gotten older!

This morning, I’m back in Chatham County on Wilmington Island where I am honored to lead the pledge of allegiance at the 10th annual Folds of Honor Golf tournament at the Savannah Country Club. Folds of Honor provides scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military as well as families of America’s first responders. Afterwards, I head back to St. Simons Island in Glynn County where I have the honor of speaking at the monthly meeting of the Golden Isles Republican Women’s meeting and bringing them up to date on Washington issues. Later, I have a phone interview with Politico to discuss the Inflation Reduction Act and what may happen to it next session if a new majority is in power before heading to the airport where I fly to Atlanta.

Tuesday, October 15, 2024: I’m in downtown Atlanta this morning at the headquarters of Cox Enterprises, parent company of the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC), where I am an in-studio guest for their Politically Georgia radio show. Along with hosts Bill Nigut, Patricia Murphy and Greg Bluestein, we discuss a number of different issues including the Presidential race here in Georgia, early voting, hurricane relief and more. Next, I head to Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM) in Atlanta and during the drive, I join in on our all staff conference call. Once at EUHM, I am led on a tour of the Winship Cancer Institute, a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center, by COO Adam Webb and staff. Combining collaborative cancer care with research, the Winship Cancer Institute is a full-service cancer care center and has the largest pharmacy in the Southeast. After a great visit, I have a number of meetings throughout the city with representatives from various groups including with the Hindu community and the Georgia Construction Aggregate Association. My final visit in the Atlanta area is at the Georgia Power Storm Center, an impressive collection of real time information regarding situations and circumstances throughout the state regarding power service. While Hurricane Helene is one of the most destructive storms we have ever witnessed in Georgia, the response and work of the lineman and personnel from Georgia Power and the Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs) throughout our state has been admirable and appreciated. During the drive to the airport for my return trip home, I have a phone interview with the Washington Post to discuss Savannah and the First District’s role in the upcoming Presidential election.

Wednesday, October 16, 2024: After returning to St. Simons Island last night, I’m in Garden City in Chatham County this morning as I have the honor of speaking to the Savannah Maritime Association at their monthly meeting. This great group works for the common benefit of all participants in Georgia’s Ports, Federal, State, City, Commercial and Community organizations and is extremely important to our economy here in the Southeast. Afterwards, I head to the Pooler Economic Outlook Luncheon sponsored by the Pooler Area Chamber of Commerce where we hear from Dr. Michael Toma, the Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Economics at Georgia Southern University as he reviews and analyses the economic numbers for Pooler and the surrounding areas. Next, I head to our Savannah district office where I have a virtual interview with WJXT-TV in Jacksonville to discuss the upcoming election and recovery from Hurricane Helene. After meeting with a constituent who is representing the American Cancer Society, I have a meeting with a physician constituent to discuss healthcare insurance and the challenges facing health care providers today. Next, I have a virtual meeting with representatives from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to discuss healthcare legislation currently being discussed in Congress and afterwards travel to downtown Savannah where I am honored to speak to attendees of the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA) convention being held in Savannah this week.

After a great visit, I head to Richmond Hill in Bryan County where I meet with Catherine Grant, CEO of Expercare Health, to learn more of the innovative health care delivery concepts they are introducing to Georgia and Alabama. Next, I head to Pooler City Hall in West Chatham County where I have a great meeting with Mayor Karen Williams and new City Manager Heath Lloyd to review road project plans they have for this growing municipality. I cannot begin to express the pride I have in the great work that has been done and continues to be done in the City of Pooler. Afterwards, I head to Black Creek in Bryan County to the Double D Foundation’s 2024 Annual banquet held at Daniel Defense. The mission of the Double D Foundation is to protect the Second Amendment by growing the number of Americans involved in shooting sports, who understand the fundamentals of firearm safety, and who share the core belief that the Second Amendment Defends the Rest. This great philanthropic effort by Marty and Cindy Daniel, owners of Daniel Defense, raises funds to support shooting sports initiatives in the form of grants.
