If you can’t quite decipher all this text, we’ll break it down for you and explain why this is such a big deal:
In Q3 (meaning July, August, and September of this year) Hung Cao’s campaign to unseat Tim Kaine raised $3,541,113.31. And in the first two weeks of October, Cao says he’s raised another million dollars on top of that.
That’s a lot of money!!! And we have a pretty good idea of how he’ll be spending it. There are two big buckets:
- He’ll put it on the airwaves behind attack ads that spread lies about Tim Kaine. (How do we know? Because he’s already doing it!)
- He’ll use it to turn out his base and Republican voters who might have otherwise sat this election out.
We’re all for voter turnout — the more people who participate in this democracy, the better off we are!
But we cannot stand by and watch Cao spend millions of dollars in the final two weeks of this race without matching his spending to turn out Democratic voters.
To do that, we need to release more funds from our budget — but frankly, we don’t have spare cash lying around. At this point in the cycle, *every penny* is already accounted for.
So we HAVE to ask: Can you chip in $29 (our average online donation amount this month) to match Hung Cao’s stunning fundraising numbers?
