### **Shocker: Teen Tobacco Use is Lowest in Years**

A recent report from the CDC reveals that teen smoking and other forms of tobacco use, particularly e-cigarettes, have hit a historic low in the United States. The overall use of tobacco products by middle and high school students dropped from 10% to about 8%, with e-cigarette usage specifically declining to under 6%. This decrease represents a 20% drop in the number of students engaging with any tobacco product, marking the lowest rate in over two decades. The decline is largely attributed to a reduction in vaping, which has been a focal point for public health interventions due to its popularity among youth.

Public health officials attribute this decline to multifaceted strategies, including raising the legal age for purchasing tobacco, increasing product pricing, and restrictions on flavorings that appeal to teens. Despite these advancements, the challenge of e-cigarettes as the leading tobacco product among youth persists, indicating the need for sustained vigilance and possibly new strategies to fully address the issue.

The CDC's director emphasized the milestone of reaching a 25-year low in youth tobacco use as a testament to effective public health policy but also as a call to continue these efforts to protect future generations from the harms of tobacco.
