John,

Thank you for praying over the San Antonio City Council meeting last Wednesday.

At first, city health officials recommended four organizations to the council that do not facilitate abortions to receive the “Reproductive Justice Fund” grants.

But then, the council members and mayor were so upset that the recommendations excluded abortion groups, they suggested a separate fund only for abortion travel.
Wednesday’s meeting was a surprising step in the right direction, but the fight isn’t over!

When liberal councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez heard that city health officials recommended groups that don’t cover abortions, he chastised them: “We’ve lost the plot, and we’ve lost the purpose of this fund.”

Melissa Cabello Havrda added, “[The proposal is] watered down, it’s unsubstantial and I’m disappointed that we didn’t take a bigger stand.”

Havrda also noted, according to the San Antonio Report, that Texas Right to Life’s lawsuit could have scared the local government into backing down.

City officials said that the council will vote on the “Reproductive Justice Fund” awardees next.
Please keep praying for victory in the face of adversity!
The San Antonio mayor proclaimed, “We just need to own up to a difficult decision that we need to make in this community; whether or not the City of San Antonio is going to allocate funds to abortion transportation [or] travel services.”

Please continue to lift up San Antonio in your prayers. You are already making a difference!
Defending Life with you,
