Hi John.

It’s incredibly important to me to stay connected with hardworking Kansans.

So this week, I was glad to shop with Betsy, a local Mission resident, and listen to her concerns about grocery prices.

I was raised by a single mom who served in the Army and later in the U.S. Postal Service. I later worked my way through college and I’m still paying off my student loans. We didn’t have a lot, but we worked hard. I understand how concerning higher grocery prices can be.

That’s why I helped introduce the bipartisan Securing American Agriculture Act. Click here to learn more.

Though we’re seeing progress in strengthening our agricultural supply chains, there’s more work to do to lower grocery prices for hardworking families.

Supply chain disruptions – whether new invasive pests or spikes in fertilizer costs – can have a big impact on prices at the grocery store. And in this global economy, world events can play a major role in driving up prices as well. This is especially important to address as our nation pushes back against the Chinese government’s growing influence in agricultural sectors.

That’s why I helped introduce the bipartisan Securing American Agriculture Act.

Our bipartisan bill requires the U.S. Department of Agriculture to regularly assess U.S. production capacity and potential bottlenecks. And it pushes back against the Chinese government’s growing influence in agriculture by assessing how our agricultural supply chains can be impacted by China.

Helping Kansas farmers and ranchers grow and deliver their food more cheaply helps our state’s largest economic sector – agriculture. It also means lower prices for folks at the grocery store.

But we have to do more. That’s why I’m also supporting legislation to crack down on price gouging so big corporations can’t take advantage of consumers. I’ve also voted for laws to support more competition so consumers can shop for better bargains.

As this work continues, I understand people also need help right away. Click here to visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources for groceries, housing, health care, and more.

It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
