Millions of voters intend to cast their ballots by mail this November...

Friend, the United States Postal Service is under a grave threat -- and we must immediately act to save it.

President Trump just installed one of his big campaign donors as postmaster general -- who hasn’t worked for the USPS a day in his life (unlike his past 4 predecessors). [1] Now, Trump has a man on the inside to carry out his agenda -- taking over, undermining, and possibly even trying to privatize this vital agency.

Making matters worse: the USPS has already been hit hard by this pandemic -- and if Congress doesn’t provide emergency funding, it could go bankrupt by September. [2]

And, that might be exactly what Trump wants -- since he’s threatened to veto any stimulus bill that funds the USPS, after railing against the agency for years.

Americans rely on the USPS every day. Letters from family. Life-saving medications. Newsletters and magazines. The sad truth is, many take the Postal Service for granted -- but Common Cause members like you already know we need to fight for it harder than ever right now.

That’s because you know our democracy also relies on the USPS. Not just mail-in ballots -- which more voters than ever before will use in November -- but the U.S. Census too, which will determine congressional representation and public resource allocation for the next decade.

But President Trump has spent weeks spreading disinformation about vote-by-mail -- calling it “corrupt” and “dangerous.” [3] And now, he’s trying to gut the USPS -- leaving the millions of Americans in red, blue, and purple states who plan to mail in their ballots this November out of luck.

For 50 years, we’ve fought to protect American democracy -- and right now, that means protecting the USPS. If you're able to, can you chip in $3 today?

Here's the good news -- if Congress includes USPS funding in the next must-pass coronavirus stimulus bill, Trump will likely back down on his veto threat and sign it.

So it comes down to a simple question: will members of Congress side with Trump’s efforts to destroy the USPS? Or will they defend an overwhelmingly popular public service that their constituents -- Republican, Democrat, and Independent -- rely on every single day?

I’m confident this is a fight we can win -- but only if we can rely on your help. Common Cause members like you have already been a crucial voice in Congress’s negotiations -- and you helped secure some of the necessary oversight and election funding in the first round of COVID-19 response legislation.

But the next bill -- for which negotiations are beginning now -- will be an even higher-stakes fight. For the sake of our democracy, we need your help to make sure all of our priorities -- election funding, rural broadband, oversight of bailout money, and a strong and resilient USPS -- are included.

Friend, right now you can help make sure Congress hears the people’s voice loud and clear -- and I'm asking you, if you're able, to chip in $3 today.

I'll Chip In $3

Please be safe. And thank you for being part of the Common Cause community at this difficult time.

Thanks for all you do,

Jesse Littlewood, Vice President for Campaigns
