John,
In just a minute, I’m going to ask you to support my dear personal friend Rudy Salas. Rudy is running for Congress in California’s March 5th Election. But first, let me explain why our fight to flip California's 22nd Congressional District is so important to me and our community.
When Rudy was a small child, he would wake up before dawn to help his family in the grape fields of Central California. While most kids were playing, Rudy was working to provide for his family.
Years later, after working his way out of the fields, he was able to graduate from UCLA, later becoming the first ever Latino elected to the Bakersfield City Council. He was then elected to the California State Assembly, Rudy has never forgotten his farmworker roots - fulfilling his commitment to working families and the community.
In the state assembly, Rudy helped win overtime for farm workers, lowered medicine costs, and fought tirelessly for clean drinking water. I have no doubt that Rudy will continue to fight for Central Valley families when elected to Congress.
While Rudy’s been devoting his life to his community, we’ve seen a GOP-led Congress make life harder for our families by eliminating safety net programs that provide food for needy children, families and seniors, attacks on Medicare, and outrageous extreme policies aimed at drastically undermining Social Security.
California farmworkers need you more than ever. We need to organize and fight to retake the House next November. This fight starts with supporting my friend Rudy here in the Central Valley of California – the birthplace of the Farmworkers’ Movement.
We cannot do this without YOU! Winning this race is going to depend on YOUR support, John. If you can, please split a $3 contribution between Rudy’s campaign and Betty Yee today.
