A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

** DEAR NORTHVILLIANS,
------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to May! A lot of action has been going on this week. Please know, our #1 goal at the City continues to keep you & our community as safe as possible. Again, I’d like to continue to hear from each of you (via text, call or email), and I sincerely thank you for what you’re doing for others in our community.

In response to citizens’ requests for timely communications, I’ve conducted two virtual Town Halls over the last month, the most recent being April 30^th. If you were able to attend, great! If not, here is a transcript that includes all the questions that came in during the Q&A session ([link removed]) .

As we all know by now, on March 10, Michigan identified its first two cases of COVID-19 (today, Michigan has close to 44K infected & over 4K deaths, while the Nation has over a 1.2 Million infected & 70K deaths) – that’s more deaths in the past month than all that lost their lives in Vietnam – and in Northville, we’ve had 35 citizens infected with 4 deaths, and 117 in the Township with 16 deaths.

Without question, COVID-19 has caused untold disruption to our health, economy, our home lives, education, civic activities & our businesses, as well as impacted our social & religious institutions.

As I walk & drive our town, I ‘m encouraged to see citizens wearing masks, scarfs & bandanas (CDC guidelines) and adhering to social distancing … We all appreciate that, and we do it out of respect for those around us! Per this week's Governor's Statement... For Stay Home Stay Safer will continue until 5/28. This past week residential & commercial builders, real-estate offices, boaters, gardening & landscape businesses, were approved. Thursday the Governor not only extended our Stay Home & Stay Safe order but reopened Manufacturing as part of other MI safe start plans.

Going forward, I believe we’ll look at life differently in many ways, as it relates to our work environment, socialization, gatherings & personal spacing. My commitment to you is to continue to be transparent while keeping all Northvillians connected & safe.

ON ACTIONS….
* I continue to urge people to stay home (except for walks for mental & physical well-being and needed errands). Importantly though, stay close digitally through your phone, facetime, virtual meetings, emails and/or text messages with those you know & love.
* Your diligence & actions are evident again in the data – we (together) have flattened the curve of infection locally. It’s been over a week since Northville has had any additional infections.

* Congress’s $2.2 Trillion support package for Covid-19 is designed to aid our small businesses & citizens individually, and also gives us resources from FEMA, the National Guard & the Army Corp. of Engineers. An additional stimulus bill passed last week, with hundreds of Billions more in loans & grants, and another Stimulus Bill could be in front of Congress soon.
* I continue to thank you for your support of our local Northville Civic Concern activity, they are serving 100’s in the community.

Also, DON’T FORGET TO COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS …
We’ve improved to 75.3% completion vs. SE Michigan @ 66.5% and Wayne County @ 57.8%. You can respond online, by phone, or by mail. What’s at stake? Funding from 132 Federal departments for roads, bridges, infrastructures, education & more. If you have completed the 2020 Census, thank you!
So, in Conclusion, on the COVID-19 Situation …
* Regarding Northville City Operations: Senior Transportation Services, Essential Businesses & First Responders activities remain uninterrupted. We’ll continue to coordinate efforts with surrounding communities – we’re continuing to work well with our Northville Township partners. Importantly, I’d like to again thank our local Health Care Workers for all they’re doing.
* Did you know … that in this time of “Stay Safe/Stay Home”, our first responders have generously volunteered their time for festive parade-type drive byes. These have taken place on neighborhood streets in celebration of special citizen milestones which were previously planned gatherings that could no longer take place in these extraordinary times. Whole neighborhoods have enthusiastically come out (socially distanced, of course) to show their appreciation.

* I encourage you to continue to support your local businesses in Northville – the survival of many of your favorite stores is dependent on our patronage NOW.
* BIG NEWS – FARMERS’ MARKET Opening day will be May 14^th! I know this has been greatly anticipated by many. My wife takes off for opening day… and that’s not for the Tigers!
* In conclusion… I encourage you to reach out & check-in with our seniors, your family members, friends & others who are part of your lives.

Share your Time & Talents with those around you as we work through this Pandemic… Together!
Be Safe ... and continue to Stay #NorthvilleStrong!”
