John, we’re 16 days away from Election Day. We know that this election is the most important of our lifetimes, and that our rights, freedoms and our very democracy hang in the balance.
This is why months ago, I asked Heather Cox Richardson to join our October AFT Book Club meeting this Sunday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. EDT, to discuss her latest book Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America.
I would love if you could join us on Sunday. Click here to register.
Richardson is one of the foremost contemporary authorities on American history. She is a professor of history at Boston College and has written about the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Gilded Age and the American West in award-winning books whose subjects stretch from the European settlement of the North American continent to the history of the Republican Party through the Trump administration.
For those who do not follow her, she writes a letter every night, called “Letters from an American.” They normally hit my inbox box at midnight or so, and I find them critical to my understanding of the events of the day. And by the way, for anyone who has preconceived notions about her politics, Richardson considers herself a Lincoln Republican.
This timely discussion will cover America at a crossroads, the historic lens within which to view this moment in our country, and the importance of voting and getting out the vote.
We’ll be talking with Heather Cox Richardson at our next AFT Book Club virtual webinar on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. Click here to register and join the conversation.
In unity,
Randi Weingarten
AFT President
