Hey, John,
The last few weeks of a campaign like this are all about hitting final milestones and wondering where the time went.
TV commercial filmed and airing? Check.
Yard signs distributed to county parties? Check.
Early voting started? Check.
Direct mail designs approved and off to the printers? Check.
And now, tonight, at midnight, we’re finally up against the final campaign finance reporting deadline of the race. [[link removed]]
There are a lot of reasons why this deadline is important, but in real terms, it mostly matters as one of those milestones—the harsh reality is that as we get closer and closer to election day, the harder it will be to even spend any new funding we take in, and we still have much more that we need to do.
Because here’s the truth: right now, my opponent is up on TV in more of the state than I am. There are voters hearing from him who aren’t hearing from me. Our message is a winning one, but that only matters if people actually hear it.
And today is a fulcrum point, because today there are still slots available on TV networks from Asheville to Wilmington. Today there’s still time to get another campaign flier printed and in voters’ mailboxes before election day. Today there are still millions of North Carolinians who have not yet cast their ballots and can still be convinced to support us.
Tomorrow there might not be.
If we’re going to spend it, we need it today, because tomorrow we could turn around and find out that we’re too late. And if we want to be able to do everything we absolutely need to in order to flip the Treasurer’s office, take control of the Council of State, and change the direction of North Carolina’s government, then I need your help now .
If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s time to give, this is it, John. The final deadline, do or die. We know that we have a winning message and if we can make sure every voter in North Carolina hears it, we will win. But I’ve got to have your support today to make sure we can reach them.
