In the two months since the COVID-19 pandemic has come to be public knowledge, there has been an abundant need for social assistance. From the growing need for financial security, to the basic need for food and shelter many communities have been devastated at an alarming capacity. However, Charity is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and we are seeing a heightened involvement of Muslims and Islamic leaders in helping to alleviate the suffering of many vulnerable individuals during this quarantine. Please join MPAC as we speak with Imam Khalid Latif on what he is doing for his New York Community, and how public citizens can get involved in such efforts.

Eighteen years have lapsed since the U.S. rid Iraq of its dictator. With the 2020 election in full swing, US-Iraq ties are strained and a Strategic Dialogue between the two countries is set to begin this summer. Whether or not Donald Trump is re-elected, the outcome of this election will shape the future relationship of both nations with shared security, economic and geopolitical challenges. In an era of endless Media, and Hollywood, Iraq is always portrayed to Americans from an outsider’s perspective. Hulu’s Baghdad Central has recently taken the task to showcase Iraq’s struggle to Americans from the perspective of Iraqis. Join MPAC this Wednesday as we host Academy Award nominated Waleed Zuaiter, who stars in Baghdad Central, as we discuss the challenges of creatively portraying the struggles of Iraq to a nation that has been at war with, and in, Iraq for the past 3 decades.
