Good morning, John
Autumn is my favourite season of the year. On crisp, frosty mornings, the kaleidoscope of colours around us showcases the beauty of the natural world. As I walk our lively Beagle, Duke, I’m struck by the wonder of creation. Autumn embodies both change and renewal.
Change and renewal are central to politics, too. Yesterday, Lindsay and I recorded the debut episode of our new Party podcast, The Lions Roar. First and foremost, it was fun! More importantly, it’s part of my commitment to embracing new ways of communicating and strengthening our connection with people across Northern Ireland. Our first episode launches on Monday on all the usual platforms, including Apple, YouTube and Spotify. Do have a listen, subscribe and let us know what you think!
On Wednesday night, I joined our strong team of DUP Councillors from across Northern Ireland. My message was clear: looking ahead to 2027, this Party has a dual focus—winning the Northern Ireland Assembly election and the Local Government election. Councillors are a vital part of our DUP team, and I’m proud of the positive change I see delivered in every corner of Northern Ireland by our dedicated, community-driven councillors.
As we look to 2027, we’ll present a formidable line-up of young energetic DUP candidates, ready to win. Renewal will be part of this process. So, as you read this, ask yourself: are you motivated to join our team? Could you be a champion for your community? I want to field team who are noted for service to others, their determination make a difference and be a passionate advocate for the Union. Take the next step and get in touch with your local DUP representative and join the team.
While we welcome change and renewal, this week has shown us that for Sinn Fein, it’s the same old story of half-truths and cover-ups. The serious nature of the McMonagle scandal, followed by the O’Donnghaile scandal, demands that Sinn Fein’s leadership face real scrutiny.
When our DUP members on the Executive Office Committee question Michelle O’Neill next week, it’s crucial that the First Minister tells the truth. The cover-ups are fooling no one.
In Westminster, the focus is turning to the upcoming Budget, with growing concern that Labour’s tax plans have shifted significantly from their pre-election promises. The DUP is a party committed to low taxation, and we will strongly oppose any government moves that further squeeze struggling households and working families. Our key priorities include:
• A fairer funding model for Northern Ireland to improve public services and outcomes for our people
• Opposing the freeze on personal tax allowances and the higher rate income tax threshold
• Increased support for working families facing the high cost of childcare
• Maintaining the freeze on fuel duty
• No changes to inheritance tax rules for agricultural land
Labour’s agenda seems set on punishing hard work and aspiration, much like their previous decision to cruelly strip the Winter Fuel Payment from many pensioners. With their large majority, they can push through these changes, but rest assured, your DUP MPs will stand firm in defending the people of Northern Ireland.
A busy week lies ahead, but don’t forget—our podcast launches on Monday. Have a great weekend, whatever you’re up to!
Yours sincerely,
Gavin Robinson MP
DUP Leader
