At a town hall event this week, a voter asked Donald Trump why they should support him in this election after what happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
And to no surprise, Trump downplayed it:
“Peacefully and patriotically”
“Nothing done wrong”
“A day of love”
In reality, Jan. 6 was a stain on our democracy that will be recorded in history books for all the wrong reasons. Dozens of police officers were injured, five people died, and irreparable harm was inflicted on our democracy.
Nothing is “peaceful” and “patriotic” about this scene.
Donald Trump’s attacks on our democracy are only ramping up as we get closer to Election Day. We need strong Democratic Secretaries of State who will defend our elections process and fight back.
