This week, I sent a letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas exposing a White House cover-up related to Vice President Kamala Harris' time working as the “border czar.” This cover-up was done deliberately to assist candidate Harris in her presidential campaign. 

Earlier this year, I sent a letter to Secretary Mayorkas demanding all correspondence from DHS that refers to Vice President Harris as the “border czar” by August 30th. I never received a response. Now we know why: Thanks to a FOIA lawsuit from Heritage’s Oversight Project, we now have redacted copies of the firestorm within DHS and the White House relating to my oversight request.

In possible violation of the Hatch Act, campaign finance laws, and agency ethics rules, a former White House employee and current Harris campaign top spokesman, Ian Sams, got involved and blocked the response. At the time he was doing this, Sams knew that within days he would be moving to the Harris 2024 presidential campaign. In light of this, my follow-up letter requests unredacted copies of all Sams’ correspondence on this matter.

REP. GAETZ INTRODUCES LEGISLATION TO DEFINE FEDERAL LAW THAT ALLOWS ILLEGALS TO BE REMOVED FROM VOTER ROLLS

Last week, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) turned its fire on Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, filing a lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Virginia for requiring daily updates to its statewide voter list after 6,300 illegal aliens were removed from voting in the upcoming election. The lawsuit claims canceling voter registrations within 90 days of an election is prohibited despite a Virginia law allowing for the removal of illegal aliens from the voting roll.

Today, in response to the weaponized Biden-Harris DOJ, I introduced the “National Motor Voter Clarification Act.” This legislation would ensure the U.S. Code matches what all Americans expect and the Constitution allows: that states have the right to remove illegal aliens from their voter rolls at any time.

I agree with Governor Youngkin that removing non-Americans from voter rolls is “common sense and constitutional.” Congress must see to it that governors are allowed to do their jobs and remove illegal aliens from the voter rolls without fear of being targeted by the federal government. It’s telling that the only “election integrity” work the Biden-Harris DOJ seems interested in is ensuring maximal turnout for people who can’t even legally vote!

TEAM GAETZ ATTENDS PENSACOLA CONSTITUENT SERVICES DAY

Last Friday, my staff had the pleasure of attending Florida State Representative Michelle Salzman’s Constituent Services Day in Pensacola. This was a great opportunity to not only hear about federal issues our constituents may be experiencing but also to collaborate with our partners at the state legislative level. Thank you to the Office of State Representative Michelle Salzman for hosting this event and to all the members of our community who came out to visit with us!

THE CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE

The Congressional App Challenge is a public effort to encourage kids to learn how to code. Students compete to code original applications for the chance to be selected for recognition, win prizes, and have their work put on display in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

Official registration for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge is now open! Students can register for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge and start coding their apps for 2024 using the link below. The competition deadline is October 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. CT.

1. Students must be in middle or high school by the time the competition ends on October 24, 2024
2. Students can participate in teams of up to four (and can submit multiple apps with a different “team lead”)
3. Apps can be coded on any platform, in any language, on any theme
4. Any apps created from November 1, 2023, to October 24, 2024, can be submitted

SENIOR INTERN PROGRAM

Our senior citizens have valuable life experiences that serve as tremendous assets to any organization. As such, I am excited to announce an opening for a Fall Senior Congressional Internship!

Every 12 weeks, my office will select an approved senior intern to work in my local Crestview office. In addition to learning about the role of a congressional office, senior interns will be asked to assist permanent congressional team members with a variety of tasks, including responding to constituent requests, writing letters, and assisting with day-to-day functions in the district office. Interns also assist staff with specific district-based projects, special events, and outreach activities.  

Eligible applicants must be 55 or older, live within the district, and be willing to work no more than 20 hours per week in the congressional office for the duration of September-January. Senior interns will receive a small stipend for their service.
