NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Jahana Hayes narrowly leads former Republican state Sen. George Logan in the race for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District, according to an exclusive poll from News 8, Emerson College Polling, and The Hill.
Among likely voters, Hayes holds a three-point edge over Logan, 49% to 46%. Five percent of voters are undecided. Hayes’ lead is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
“It’s very close; this is not any one candidate’s race,” Matt Taglia, senior director at Emerson College Polling, told News 8. |
In a debate this week, Jahana Hayes said George Logan needed to “go back to where he came from.”
As a reminder, George Logan is a first-generation American and the proud son of immigrants from Guatemala. Hayes’s comments are exactly the type of comments that her fellow Democrats decried for years.

“Jahana Hayes has repeatedly insulted her constituents via her votes and now her own comments. Her flippant attitude towards immigrant communities is insulting and disqualifying.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Savannah Viar

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, Israel Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Thursday.
Sinwar has been credited as the mastermind behind the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel that led to the deaths of 1,200 people, the worst terrorist attack in Israel's history.
"The master murderer Yahya Sinwar, who is responsible for the massacre and atrocities of October 7, was killed" by Israel Defense Forces soldiers, Katz said in a statement. "This is a great military and moral achievement for Israel and a victory for the entire free world against the evil axis of extreme Islam led by Iran. |
WASHINGTON CROSSING, Pennsylvania, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris defended the Biden administration's handling of illegal immigration in a combative television interview on Wednesday, blaming Republicans for failing to pass a border security bill.
Grilled by host Bret Baier on Fox News, Harris also defended President Joe Biden's mental fitness, her years as his vice president and her previous support of gender-affirming surgery for transgender inmates. |
