Good evening,

While we stay home to stem the spread of the most dangerous
threat to global health in decades, the combination of isolation,
anxiety, and economic instability is having unintended
consequences.

Women in Washington state and across the country are
experiencing increases in domestic abuse.

We must address the epidemic of violence against women
immediately.

This week I sent a letter to Senate leadership asking that they
take urgent action to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act
(VAWA). I am proud to say that two dozen other Attorneys General
across the nation joined me to push for critical action.

The VAWA provides critical protections for victims of sexual
assault and/or domestic violence and makes it possible for
prosecutors and law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable.

The latest iteration of the legislation even strengthens
protections for gender-based violence against groups previously
excluded, such as the LGBTQ community and native women.

And it closes the "boyfriend loophole," taking firearms out of
the hands of individuals known to be dangerous.

This legislation has passed Congress with broad bi-partisan
support many times -- and each time, it has expanded support
programs that provide relief and safety to survivors as they
re-establish their sense of security and rebuild their lives.

The bottom line: The House passed the reauthorization of the
VAWA more than a year ago. Now, with rates of domestic violence
surging, there is absolutely no excuse for the Senate to delay
action.

If you agree, add your name right away to join me in calling on
the Senate to pass the reauthorization of the critical Violence
Against Women Act:
