Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween is creeping up on us. The City of Hurst wishes everyone a safe and happy Halloween experience. Take a minute to read these seven tips to make sure you and your family stay safe while trick-or-treating.
-
Trick-or-treat with trusted neighbors. Walk neighborhoods you are familiar with and only visit well-lit homes.
-
Carry flashlights to help make sure you are easily seen.
-
Turn on headlights early to spot kids from further away while driving.
-
Dress to impress…..safely. Make sure costumes and candy bags or pails are reflective. Costumes shouldn’t drag too far on the ground to avoid tripping, and masks, hats, and shoes should be well-fitting.
-
Watch for kids. If you plan to be driving during trick-or-treat hours, watch for children walking on roadways, medians, and curbs. Be sure to enter and exit driveways carefully.
-
Stay on the path. Don’t stray from the well-marked routes to get to the candy. Always use the sidewalk, and do not cut across yards or use alleys. Wherever possible, cross the road at a crosswalk.
-
When in doubt, throw the candy out. Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is completely unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade and not factory-wrapped.
Boo safe out there and have fun!

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Registration for the Fall CERT Basic Training class is going on now through October 25 at 5 p.m. Only 10 spots per city are allowed, and they will fill up quickly!
The Hurst, Euless, and Bedford CERT teams will partner to host a CERT Basic Training Class in Bedford. The class will meet from Friday to Sunday, November 1 – 3, 2024.
The CERT program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
It is taught by a trained team of first responders and experienced volunteers who have completed a CERT Train-the-Trainer course conducted by their state training office for emergency management, or FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI). CERT training includes disaster preparedness, small fire suppression, basic medical procedures, and light search and rescue operations. This training is sponsored by FEMA and managed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Seating is limited to 30 participants with 10 seats allocated to each CERT team. The first 10 people to respond will receive a seat in the class. Full participation is required to complete the course.
