Hearing From Wisconsin Manufacturing Workers
I worked for over a decade in the manufacturing industry. Wisconsin is home to more than 450,000 manufacturing jobs, making up over 18% of our working population. This week, I joined some of these workers at Racine Case, where I was able to see first-hand the great work that they do in developing agricultural equipment that is used across our nation. Afterwards, we discussed ways we can work together to make sure American manufacturing remains the best in the world. Thank you to Racine Case for having me. I will continue my work to support Wisconsin manufacturing!
Thank you, Wisconsin First Responders
This week, I joined the South Milwaukee Fire Department for a behind-the-scenes look at the lifesaving work they do. Thank you to all our firefighters and first responders for your dedicated service to keeping our community safe.
Protecting Patients and Addressing IV Shortage
Today, I led the Wisconsin delegation in urging the Biden-Harris administration to take immediate action to address the nationwide IV fluid shortage due to the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The administration must take action to minimize the impact of this shortage on patient care and increase the supply of IV solutions.
Over the past few weeks, Hurricanes Helene and Milton have left a trail of destruction across the Southeastern states, particularly in North Carolina and Florida. In its aftermath, people from around the country have joined together to help the communities facing devastating losses.
The damage caused by Hurricane Helene has led to a nationwide IV fluid shortage. The largest manufacturer of IV fluids and dialysis solutions in the U.S., Baxter International, is located less than an hour from Asheville, North Carolina. According to the company, their site was significantly impacted by the rain and storm surge form Hurricane Helene and is temporarily closed. Baxter supplies roughly 60% of the IV fluids to hospitals in the U.S.
Unfortunately, I have heard from Wisconsin hospitals and other medical providers who have already begun postponing and cancelling elective procedures for patients due to the impending shortage. If immediate action is not taken to mitigate the harm coming from a lack of IV supplies, American lives will be put at risk.
I look forward to hearing back from the administration on this critical issue and will continue working to ensure Americans impacted by these natural disasters have access to the care they need.

Pumpkin Season is Here!
The Smith family founded the Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm in 1975. For nearly fifty years, the Smith family has brought our Kenosha community together. I joined County Executive Samantha Kerkman, Sheriff Dave Zoerner, and so many others for the arrival of pumpkin season. Thank you to Jerry Smith Farm for yet another fantastic event.
