Team,
For far too long, the ultra-wealthy in America have been able skirt doing their part and paying a fair share in taxes. They’ve been playing by their own rules and as a result, it’s been more difficult for everyone else to make ends meet.
Now, Donald Trump is proposing a tax plan that would increase taxes on 95% of Americans.
And who would Donald Trump spare from higher taxes? According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, "only 5% of the wealthiest households would come out ahead under Trump’s plans."
But it’s not just Donald Trump. Congressional Republicans are doing everything they possibly can to let their rich donors off the hook for paying taxes.
Every single Republican voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, which gave the IRS resources to crack down on wealthy tax cheats. Ever since we passed the law, they’ve been trying to defund IRS enforcement. Defunding the tax police for rich people is the Republican way.
A main plank of the Republican Party is making the rich even richer. And the reality is, working people are picking up the tab. I refuse to allow middle class families to shoulder this burden on their own.
My Buffett Rule bill would ensure that billionaires pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes so that the wealthy few who have gained so much from our system are not paying lower tax rates than hardworking teachers and nurses.
We have to level the playing field and ensure that ultra-wealthy individuals contribute their fair share. If you’re with me, chip in to my re-election campaign so I can continue my work in the Senate to stop the GOP from giving the richest few special treatment. [link removed]
