My Discussion with Local Labor and Education Leaders on CTE Funding

Last Friday, I traveled to Rock Valley College in Rockford to speak with Northern Illinois labor and education leaders on the importance of career and technical education (CTE). The roundtable discussion featured a wide-ranging conversation on the challenges faced by students, workers, and employees and how greater investment in CTE programs will grow our state’s economy and help more graduates from community colleges like Rock Valley College succeed. A ticket to the middle class should not require a four-year college degree, which is why I have championed CTE funding during my time in Congress, highlighted by my bipartisan Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21^st Century Act, which increases funding for CTE programs across the country by $1.3 billion annually. Ensuring educators and businesses have the tools to help students and graduates will provide all Illinoisans with the opportunity to thrive.

October 24^th Deadline For 2024 Congressional App Challenge

In 2015, the House of Representatives launched the Congressional App Challenge to promote engagement in computer science among young people by creating an opportunity for middle and high school students to compete with peers by creating their own applications for computers, the web, tablets, phones, or other devices. I encourage all interested students in our district to participate, whether individually or in groups of up to four. The winner will be featured online at CongressionalAppChallenge.us.

Less than two weeks remain before the October 24^th submissions deadline for middle and high school students to register and submit their applications for this year’s Congressional App Challenge. To learn about the rules, prizes, and more, you can visit our website here.
