Press Conference 10/18/24 My Reponse to the Most Recent Media Slander

I’m here in response to recent news stories implying that I am calling for a nationwide armed revolution if I don’t win the superintendent of schools race. You guys have fallen hook, line and sinker for the distraction campaign being run by my opponent. It seems you, the media, are drinking the very same flavor of kool-aid that you are serving your audience. Thankfully, I have faith that the American people and the voters of North Carolina are much smarter than the press give them credit for. It is shameful that at a time when our schools are in such crisis, the media is refusing to report the truth. The real danger here is the irresponsibility of a press that would twist words to manipulate the public rather than report on the actual violence in our schools. Where are the stories addressing the 84% increase in drug use, gang activity and violent crime in our schools? The nearly 1,500 North Carolina teachers assaulted in the classroom just last year? Right down the road we had a student stabbed to death at school, in the gym and it barely made the 6 o’clock news. What about all the young people that committed suicide at NC State last year? With all your resources why are you not digging into the root causes of these tragedies? Is it any wonder that out of all American institutions media is trusted the least? And yet you continue to mislead the public and ignore the most important issues. Why have you been negligent in looking into my opponent's history of funding violence, chaos and assaults on our police officers.

Why have you turned a blind eye to his dangerous rhetoric that is fueling an attack of vicious slurs and actual death threats against me? When what I am doing is working tirelessly to affect positive change and to solve these incredibly significant problems. Families and teachers are leaving in droves. Proficiency rates are at an all time low. Many of our young adults are graduating wholly unprepared for adult life. So, do I talk about a culture war? Yes. Absolutely. Am I fighting for our children? Yes. Absolutely. Will I continue to fight to fix this school system, win or lose? Yes. Harder than ever. It's ridiculous to imply that I am calling for an armed revolution when what I am doing is trying as hard as I possibly can to undo the damage that has been done to our young people. With your help, my opponent has tried to bully me into silence and compliance, just like the system has done to thousands of teachers and students. Let me say this this to every person who has not felt free to speak truth to power: I see you, I hear you and I am fighting for you. That is why I will be voting Michele Morrow for Superintendent of Public Instruction. I encourage every concerned citizen in NC to do the same.
