Neighbors,

It’s that time of year again—Howard University Homecoming Week is here in D.C.! This iconic celebration not only brings together thousands of alumni, students, and supporters, but it also energizes our entire city.

From the bustling streets around campus to the many local businesses, Howard Homecoming infuses D.C. with an undeniable spirit of excitement and pride. Restaurants, shops, and hotels see a surge in activity, as visitors and residents alike take part in the festivities. Beyond the commerce, this week serves as a vibrant showcase of our city’s culture, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate black excellence and community.

As a proud Bison myself, I’m excited to see how this week continues to uplift our city—both economically and culturally. Let’s embrace the energy and celebrate all the talent, creativity, and entrepreneurship that makes Howard Homecoming such a special time for D.C.!

In service,
Kenyan
Howard University 100th Homecoming

I am excited to share that earlier this week, the Council approved the Howard University 100th Homecoming Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 2024. As a proud Howard alum, this moment is especially meaningful to me.

Howard Homecoming isn’t just an event; it’s an iconic celebration of black excellence, culture, and talent that resonates far beyond Washington, D.C. It’s a time when Bison come together from all over the world to honor the legacy of our beloved university and its continued impact on our community and the nation.

For over a century, Howard has set the standard for excellence, producing leaders, innovators, and trailblazers across every field. From the arts and sciences to politics and social justice, Howard graduates are making their mark and shaping the future. Their influence is felt far and wide, and their contributions are immeasurable.

As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I reflect on my own journey as a proud Bison and the profound impact Howard University has had on my life. I’m honored to represent this extraordinary institution and to support its continued legacy of achievement and inspiration.

Here’s to 100 years of Howard Homecoming and many more to come!

DC Chamber Choice Awards & Gala

Last Friday, October 11th, I was invited to the 2024 Chamber's Choice Awards & Gala, a special event that celebrates the remarkable achievements within our community. The gathering provided a wonderful opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of select businesses and individuals who have made a significant impact on our city.

The gala serves as a reminder of the hard work, innovation, and dedication that continue to drive our community forward. I am grateful for the chance to celebrate with those who are helping shape a brighter future for all of us.

Breast Cancer Awareness Event at Edgewood Recreation Center – A Powerful Gathering

On Wednesday, October 16th, members of my team had the privilege of tabling at the Breast Cancer Awareness event hosted by MPD at the Edgewood Recreation Center. It was an inspiring day, with a great turnout of women courageously sharing their personal stories of overcoming and experiencing breast cancer. The event provided a space for empowerment, support, and connection.

We were honored to be there, sharing valuable information from our office, and connecting with attendees. The Susan G. Komen organization also participated, offering helpful resources and gift bags, further underscoring the importance of awareness and early detection.

As we reflect on the event, we want to remind all women—mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, and friends—to prioritize your health and get your mammograms. Early intervention is key to improving outcomes.

Here are some helpful resources to share with your loved ones:
* National Breast Cancer Foundation: Early Detection & Resources ([link removed])
* Susan G. Komen Support & Resources ([link removed])
* CDC Breast Cancer Information ([link removed])

Let’s continue to support each other in the fight against breast cancer, and encourage early detection for all.

Stay strong and informed!
