(New York, N.Y.) — Counter Extremism Project (CEP) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace and President Fran Townsend issued the following statement today, on the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza following a successful Israel Defense Force operation:
The death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is an act of eminent justice. It should bring a small measure of solace to the loved ones of those killed because of his murderous ideology and his willingness to sacrifice countless Palestinian lives to his hate for the Jewish state. He was a murderer, responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocents from around the world. He was the architect of the October 7th attacks in Israel—a day of murder, rape, and kidnapping that affected thousands of innocents and the largest massacre of the Jewish people in a single day since the Holocaust. Sinwar’s evil ideology knew no boundaries: he was committed to sacrificing the blood of the Palestinian people in order to see more Israeli blood. His death should be welcomed by all.
We congratulate the IDF on its bravery and commitment to bringing this monster to justice.
Not only was Sinwar the architect-in-chief of the horrific crimes of October 7th and subsequent hostage-taking, but he pledged to repeat the exercise. To Sinwar, who for decades pursued an unrelenting path of death and destruction, October 7 was merely a prelude to even greater acts of barbarism.
The United Sates and its allies around the world are undoubtedly more secure following the death of one of the world’s leading terrorists. The past few months have seen a systematic degradation of Iran’s terror-driven “axis of resistance.” Sinwar’s death is a critical blow that the United States should press to its advantage in seeking a post-Hamas world. No longer should America represent a nearly feckless non-actor whose failure to deter has made the middle east a far more dangerous place.
