John,

If you've met Ricki Ruiz, you know that he is a passionate champion for our democracy.

I first worked with Ricki when he was a freshman in the 2021 long session. Margaret and I were advocating for a statewide requirement that high schoolers take at least one term of civics in order to graduate high school. Having witnessed the January 6th attack on our democracy first-hand, we thought this was imperative.

It turns out, we had some surprising opposition to a simple civics requirement.

But then we met with a young legislator on the education committee who got his start on the Reynold school board. He was the first in his family to go to college. Ricki Ruiz became our civics champion in Salem. He helped lead the way to its near-unanimous approval in both chambers.

Ricki is not just a champion for our democracy, but for livable communities as well. We have worked together on legislation to make our communities safer and more resilient in the face of climate change, extreme weather, and disaster preparedness.

In fact, Ricki is such an effective advocate for democracy and livable communities in Salem that Republican mega-donors dumped $150,000 into his opponent's campaign just this week. That is more than most state legislators raise and spend in an entire campaign cycle.

Will you join me in supporting our champion of democracy by rushing a $15 donation to Ricki for Oregon?

Donate!

Courage,

Earl
