There’s growing concern over two current staff members at Bassett Medical Center, Claire Howlett and Georgia Payne. Both are leaders of Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), a group that has openly spread hateful and antisemitic messages. CUAD proudly posted images of Hamas target-marking symbols and has expressed support for violent actions, including the use of Molotov cocktails to destroy a police cruiser.

These actions are far from peaceful protest. Claire and Georgia’s organization has crossed the line into promoting dangerous, extremist ideologies. Bassett Medical Center must seriously reconsider whether individuals with such radical ties can truly honor their commitment to “do no harm.”
