Kamala Harris just announced a plan to expand Medicare to include a home-based long-term care benefit. And she’s adding hearing and vision benefits as well. This would be a game-changing expansion of Medicare―made possible because the Biden-Harris administration finally stopped letting Big Pharma rip Americans off.

Currently, the only long-term care system that we have in this country falls on Medicaid, which is means-tested. Long-term care costs around $100,000 per year, so almost no one can afford it.

Vice President Harris’s plan to expand Medicare and create a Medicare at Home benefit would ensure people can retire in dignity, not destitution. Can you sign our petition to demand Congress pass it?

Under the current system, a person has to spend down any assets they have in order to qualify for coverage, sometimes even divorcing their loving spouses in order to qualify for long-term care coverage. And even then, after breaking up families and depleting their nest eggs, they wind up in a dehumanizing corporate nursing home that exists to exploit patients for profit, because that’s still all they can afford.

This is a system that is fundamentally broken in this country.

The Medicare At Home plan Kamala Harris announced is a big step toward fulfilling Medicare’s promise of a simple, universal benefit. She’s following in the grand tradition of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Frances Perkins.

Under the Harris plan, seniors and people with disabilities would have the freedom to stay in their own homes. Everyone on Medicare would qualify.
