The Department of Justice (DOJ) made a shocking and unprecedented move when it dropped its criminal case against Michael Flynn.

As a former prosecutor and current member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I am outraged by the conduct of Attorney General William Barr. He has effectively replaced Michael Cohen as the president's fixer, using the power of the Justice Department to sweep the crimes and misconduct of the Trump Administration under the rug.

There are only two things you need to know about this shameless act:

• Flynn, Trump's first national security advisor, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI about Russian contacts in 2016.
• The attorney general represents the people of the United States; he is NOT the president's personal attorney.

To speak bluntly, this DOJ action, led by Trump enabler Attorney General Barr, is a complete insult to the department's name, legacy, and the public servants doing their best to actually uphold -- rather than derail -- justice.
