A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
This week, I kicked off my Blue Economy tour! You might be wondering: what is the Blue Economy? To me, it's about the jobs, innovation, and opportunities around the bodies of water that make us the Ocean State. This includes so many things that are why Rhode Island is an amazing place to live, including national security, oceanography, clean energy, boat building, tourism, seafood industry, and sustainability. The tour's goal is to strategically engage thought leaders in Rhode Island as we work to grow our Blue Economy.
Congressman Amo participates in CCRI's safety training for offshore wind workers.
Our first stop was at the Community College of Rhode Island Lincoln's campus for a Blue Economy roundtable discussion focused on the offshore wind workforce with labor union leaders, non-profit leaders, CCRI's workforce development leadership, and even someone working on a wind project. We discussed the availability of great jobs to people without college degrees, the importance of federal resources in training, and the types of supports needed to help workers thrive. Above all, we recognized the fact that the sector is creating real opportunities for working families across our state. I even participated in a demonstration of the Global Wind Organization-certified Basic Safety Training Program, fitting into all of the gear someone working at heights would wear -- helmet, gloves, and all!

On our second stop, we gathered a group of researchers, academic leaders, and a student from the University of Rhode Island, Brown, Roger Williams University at the Save the Bay Center in Providence on Narragansett Bay. We discussed work that leaders in the state have done to develop strategy to grow the Blue Economy and how the federal government can help unlock growth, including programs like Sea Grant and the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) that drive our state's innovation. We also spoke about how we can keep talented students who do innovative research in Rhode Island here after they graduate. It was inspiring to see how collaboration across different institutions and fields from engineering to marine law to ocean mapping can power our Blue Economy.
I'm grateful to all who participated in our tour stops -- and I'm looking forward to our next set of visits and learning more about driving innovation in Rhode Island.
Stay tuned for updates on our Blue Economy tour!
Sincerely, |

This month, our Rhode Island delegation secured $1.8 million in federal funding from the Department of Justice to support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking.
Survivors of domestic violence in Rhode Island are not alone — they have valiant organizations on their side that offer the stability and resources needed for healing to occur. This federal funding will help these Ocean State organizations continue to support vulnerable residents in our community.

Last week, I joined Senators Jack Reed & Sheldon Whitehouse to announce a $125,000 grant for the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program in Little Compton and Tiverton.
Provided by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this funding will aid local efforts to prevent youth substance abuse by strengthening our community coalitions.
The program emphasizes collaboration among local leaders, parents, and educators to foster healthier environments for young people. This effort highlights the importance of supporting grassroots initiatives to reach people where they are to combat drug use and ensure the well-being of young people in our communities.

I had a great discussion on the importance of voting with my fellow Pawtucket kids at Shea High School. From my beginnings in Woodlawn to serving in Congress, I shared the public service possibilities from when we show up and get involved. Go Shea Raiders! |

More Critical Federal Funding to Replace the Washington Bridge
This week, our congressional delegation announced over $95 million in additional federal funding to replace the Washington Bridge. Following last month’s grant announcement, this new federal investment brings the total amount of federal funding secured to rebuild the bridge to $221 million.
At every step of the way, our delegation has worked hard to secure these federal dollars. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we're grateful to President Biden and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for responding to our advocacy about the need to alleviate the burden on residents, small businesses, and first responders. We look forward to additional action from state officials to ensure that work begins soon.

WATCH: NBC10 Discussion on My Work on Artificial Intelligence
Congressman Amo on WJAR’s Your Voice, Your Future Town Hall: AI and You
I recently had the opportunity to speak with NBC 10 on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), our students' experience with it in the classroom, and the prospects for my bill, the bipartisan Literacy in Future Technologies Artificial Intelligence (LIFT AI) Act in Washington.
Just last month, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology unanimously passed the LIFT AI Act. This bipartisan bill would create an opportunity to ensure AI literacy for K-12 students. To me, it's clear that we have to teach students — even young students — how to effectively and responsibly use AI. Students should not have to wait until college or their first job to learn about AI. In fact, delaying this digital education could prevent them from entering those spaces in the first place. My bill would make sure students have the skills needed to responsibly use AI. I also talked about the LIFT AI Act in August, when I held a roundtable at Smithfield High School.
