Paraquat Evaluation (AB 1963) triggers an immediate reevaluation of paraquat, a powerful and widely used weedkiller that has been linked to Parkinson’s disease, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, childhood leukemia, and other serious health issues. Paraquat is already banned in more than 60 countries, including those with large agricultural economies including the United Kingdom, China, Brazil and the members of the European Union, yet California remains the top user of the spray in our nation. Finally the State will be compelled to better protect farm workers and nearby communities.
Wetlands Forever (AB 2875) protects California’s precious and dwindling wetlands from the Sackett Decision, a recent Supreme Court ruling which dismantled protections for our nation’s wetlands. Our wetlands provide 60% of our state’s drinking water, and they are critical habitat for our state's native species and serve as natural barriers protecting us from flooding. They are not for sale.  Ending Sexual Assault on College Campuses (AB 810), helps prevent predatory professors and coaches credibly accused of harassment or sexual assault from being hired at new campuses and endangering new students. Sexual impropriety should never mar what should be some of the best years of young adults’ lives, and now we are one step closer to ensuring it won’t.  Protecting Tenants (AB 2801) helps stop illegal security deposit retentions that can harm renters’ financial well-being. Security deposits can be prohibitively expensive, and tenants’ ability to get them back can vary from landlord to landlord. Responsible tenants deserve to get their deposits back. The law will also help landlords more easily prove actual damage. The clarity and process AB 2801 establishes will help both tenants and landlords.  Funding Transit (AB 761) will help California compete for federal tax dollars which could provide billions of dollars to LA Metro’s K Line and other much-needed projects throughout the state to address transportation, housing, and climate change.
